It serves as a perfect introduction to Feminism. I actually reached this book at a time when I was looking for exactly this. This book is neither too academic, nor basic - it perfectly sets the tone suitably for eager teenagers new to the topic, as well as for the older reader who wishes to either be introduced or learn more than they already know about the topic.
I feel so inspired by this book - written by an academic, and by one of the founders of The F-Word website - that I'd love all my friends to borrow it and read it. I recommend it so warmly, and with urgency too. It is an enjoyable, educational read, which had me nodding in agreement at many things I have felt or feel and perhaps had not hitherto expressed or realised fully - it is also stimulating, shocking, saddening, life-affirming. I want to act and cause affect in the world - feeling more than ever that the personal is political. The action points in this book are brilliant. I wish every public library would stock this book.
One of the most important messages I took away from this book which seems very poignant right now is that feminism is not outmoded, is not redundant, can never be, because equality between genders is still to be achieved - on the surface, sometimes for some it is easy to think women have things so much better than in previous eras, but there is still so much that affects women's daily lives, all over the world.
